Channeling: How It All Started PDF Print E-mail
Written by Maggie Ostara, PhD

“Channeling.” Sounds pretty “new agey”, huh? Yeah, I thought so, too. Then about ten years ago I started receiving perspectives, insights, and guidance while writing in my journal that I knew were coming from somewhere outside myself. The words that flowed from my pen took on a quality that that I’d never known before, yet was oddly familiar. The perceptions, and as I came to realize later, the predictions, were so accurate and helpful that I couldn’t help but pay attention.
At the time I was in love with someone with whom I had a past life connection. This was the first time I’d consciously realized such a thing, and my guide showed up to help me through it. The person I was involved with and I had an overpowering connection, but it was going nowhere fast because he also had a married, albeit open, relationship. We came together to heal something very old that neither of us understood—and we did, with the help of this guide. I was so incredulous at what was happening, that my channel upward blew open, and information began pouring in.

I was also doing shamanic work at the same time, working with someone who channeled her own guides. She had been giving me really interesting insights and feedback, and supporting me to listen inside to my own body to hear its wisdom. So I guess it wasn’t that strange when my pen began writing itself, and I knew some other consciousness than my own was at work. Before long I began to be able to bring through the information verbally. As I came to know my guide better, I realized that I had been receiving advice and insights since I was a child, only I didn’t know it. I could identify a number of critical moments at which urgings within me were so strong that I had to follow them. I understood from this new vantage point that those urgings were my guide pushing me to make changes—ones that kept me alive during a turbulent adolescence, and that later helped me thrive.

The Angel Gabriel

I developed my practice with this guide, named Gabriel, for a number of years. I learned that he had been with me since birth. His mission was to bring me to the point of conscious awakening to my own spirit, and to facilitate my access to the light realms and higher guidance. My contact with him grew and waned in stages. I studied shamanic journeying with Michael Harner, and discovered I could connect with my guide in a specific place in the upper world. I went through some difficult periods when I didn’t trust myself or what I was receiving, and I stopped asking and listening. I had other times of great clairaudience, when the information poured through me faster than I could record or remember it. Eventually I began to hear clearly within my own head without needing to speak the words. Our interactions became internal dialogues. My trust deepened as the channel opened.

I began to be aware of many non-physical beings I could connect with. During Clarity Breathwork sessions different beings came to me, bringing new insights and perspectives. After I became a breathwork practitioner, when I was supporting clients I would sometimes become aware of spirits who had crossed over, particularly mothers. If the timing was right, and the clients were willing, I brought through their mother’s words, often of great love and comfort. Sometimes a client’s guides asked me to channel them so they could speak directly to the client who otherwise couldn’t hear them. I was thrilled to expand my capacities, always being careful to bring through energies from the light.

Then I began to study the teachings of Orin and DaBen, channeled by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer, and their transformative course, “Awakening Your Light Body.” With these advanced meditation practices my channeling became clearer and clearer.  I began to have open access to other light beings in addition to Gabriel. As I studied to become an Awakening Your Light Body teacher a new set of guides, calling themselves Shaman, came to me.

Shaman

Shaman are a group of non-physical beings who are not so much a collective consciousness as a community of beings who speak to and through me with different qualities and emphases in different situations. Shaman are part of a network of guides working with Orin and DaBen to help bring light and higher consciousness to our world.  I now channel primarily Shaman when I work with clients and when I’m teaching.

In addition to supporting me to bring through the Light Body energies, Shaman have their own teachings to offer. They particularly like to work with groups, and I frequently draw on them when I hold circles and teach. Even in their work with individuals they like to connect those individual souls to their soul group, and to other supportive energies. One of their purposes is to help us truly experience that we are not alone or separate, but rather whole and connected, always.

Shaman are also particularly adept at creating specialized journeys for individuals and groups. These meditations are designed to be heard over and over again, as they will assist in new ways at different times.
